SDGs: Summary
The UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a set of indicators of well-being across specific policy-relevant themes, touching on all environmental, social and economic aspects of well-being. They allow CBS to neutrally and systematically monitor developments related to these themes.

Trends
The figure below combines all indicators for which a medium-term trend (2017-2024) was calculated. It shows the percentage of indicators moving towards the goal (green), the proportion showing a neutral trend (grey) and the proportion moving away from the goal (red).
The 17 SDGs were adopted by the UN in 2015. Government leaders from 193 countries have committed themselves to this sustainable development agenda, which runs until 2030. We are now past the halfway point of the timeframe for achieving the goals.
- At least half of the indicators show a trend towards increased well-being for gender equality (SDG 5), labour and leisure (SDG 8.2), sustainable business (SDG 9.2), responsible consumption and production (SDG 12), no poverty (SDG 1) and climate action (SDG 13).
- A quarter or more of the indicators are moving towards lower well-being for institutions (SDG 16.2), financial sustainability (SDG 10.2), housing (SDG 11.1), life on land (SDG 15) and living environment (SDG 11.2).

Positions
It is not possible to make international comparisons for all indicators in the monitor. Where comparison is possible, we established the average position of the Netherlands within the EU-27 for each SDG.
Compared to other EU member states, the Netherlands performs well on no poverty (SDG 1), social cohesion and inequality (SDG 10.1), institutions (SDG 16.2) and sustainable business (SDG 9.2). The Netherlands does not have a low average ranking for any of the SDGs.
