StatLine is being updated

New environment
StatLine has been Statistics Netherlands’ (CBS) statistical database for more than 25 years. Now it is time for change: the current web application needs to be updated. The data will be migrated to a new environment that meets today's functional requirements and technical capabilities. The transition will affect everyone who works with our data via the StatLine website, APIs and Open Data.
Change of schedule: The transition will not take effect in 2025
The launch of the new StatLine environment was planned for autumn 2025. However, due to the scope and complexity of the project, it has become clear that this will be postponed until next year. We are currently investigating the causes and looking for solutions in cooperation with the open-source community of .STAT, which is managed by OECD. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this change in schedule. The next update on this project will follow in early 2026. We will also share an updated schedule and technical documentation to ensure a smooth transition.

New environment
The new environment uses the '.Stat-Suite': a globally used open-source software platform designed for processing, managing and publishing statistical data. This system complies with the new international standards for data exchange and will enable expansion to new functionalities, such as improved search and retrieval of figures and an optimised user experience. For more information about the .Stat Suite visit the website of the .Stat community (SIS CC).
General changes
The transition will affect the StatLine website and the technical data links (APIs). The most important changes are:
1. New design for the StatLine website
The design of the StatLine website will change, but the functionality of the user interface will remain largely the same.
2. Selections from URL links will disappear
The transition to the new environment means that the current URL links to StatLine tables will change. We will convert the links to tables in the current environment to the new environment as much as possible. Links to your own selections from StatLine tables will no longer exist and must be recreated.
3. Migration to SDMX: impact of API links and Open Data packages
The current web application is based on the OData standard. In the new environment, it will be based on the SDMX standard (Statistical Data and Metadata Exchange). This is an international standard for exchanging (statistical) data efficiently and is used by Eurostat and the IMF, among others. In preparation for the migration, the data must be restructured and described in a new way, which may lead to changes in the structure of datasets. Systems that retrieve data via an API link (Application Programming Interface) will need to be reconnected. Users of our Open Data packages (OData packages) will also need to adapt their applications accordingly.
Key aspects for the migration from OData to SDMX
The migration from OData to SDMX is not only a technical change, but also a change in content. For example, the way in which data is retrieved and stored will change, which will also have consequences for users, apps and systems that interact with the new environment. Preparations are underway to ensure a smooth transition for all StatLine users, by means of manuals and explanations.
Stay updated
A new update on the schedule will follow in early 2026. After the launch, the current system will remain in use for several months (but will no longer be updated) to give all users of our data sufficient time to adapt their systems. Stay informed by keeping an eye on this page.
